Ex Miner scoops Millionaire Raffle prize

Last Updated: Tuesday 31st May 2011, 15:00

An ex-miner from County Durham struck gold on the Euromillions Lottery and scooped the Millionaire Raffle prize. Forget digging for coal, Thomas Harwood, 72 has truly struck something really precious with this win, and he believes he has his late mother to thank. Mr Harwood’s mum likes a flutter and would have loved the Royal Wedding, leading him to think she had a hand in the fate of the day.

After an exhausting day enjoying the Royal Wedding, Mr Harwood fell asleep before he got a chance to watch the Euromillions draw, but had a real surprise when he checked his ticket the next day.

Although Mr Harwood had won no prizes at all in the main draw, his lottery ticket had correctly matched the Millionaire Raffle number for the evening, netting him a cool £1 million. Having just recovered from throat cancer, Mr Harwood says the win will change his life and he’s already making plans for how to spend the cash.

It’s a good job that Mr Harwood checks his Millionaire Raffle number as many players aren’t, and it means they could be missing out on life-changing lottery prizes. In just a few days, three £1 million Millionaire Raffle prizes will go to good causes if unclaimed so make sure you check the winning numbers!

The next Euromillions draw is this evening, and the estimated jackpot, due to a rollover is £25 million. Good luck if you’re buying lottery tickets, make sure you check the lottery results after the draw!
