Lottery Millionaire Helps Make Christmas Magical for Little Girl Battling Cancer

Last Updated: Thursday 24th September 2020, 11:02

Kenny Ashton, who won £1 million on a National Lottery scratchcard, has used a wedge of his wealth to make Christmas that little bit brighter for a little girl battling cancer.

Five-year-old Hope Feeney was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that forms within nerve tissue, when she was just three years old. Since then, then has undergone numerous bouts of aggressive treatment to combat the disease, but doctors told her mother more than a year ago that there was little more that they could do for the little girl.

However, Hope’s life got a little bit brighter this week when scratchcard winner Kenny Ashton invited her and her mother to the Ouseburn Community Farm in Newcastle for a special Christmas treat, arranging for Hope to have time to play with the animals and receive some early Christmas gifts.

Kenny, who is himself a father, told The Mirror that he wants to give back to children who are especially in need. Using a portion of his wealth to cover costs, he regularly puts on shows to raise money for good causes, putting his singing talents to good use.

“I’ve got five kids of my own who are healthy so I feel blessed,” Kenny told reporters. “I haven’t earned the position I’ve found myself in so I think it only right I help others. Every pound I make from singing goes to the kids who need it the most. They need to raise a lot of money to get the treatment.”

Hope’s mother, 31, told the newspaper that she considered herself extremely lucky to be able to have another Christmas with her daughter, and thanked Kenny for helping bringing a little extra light into their lives.

28p from every £1 spent on EuroMillions, Lotto, Lotto Hotpicks and Thunderball tickets, as well as scratchcards and instant-win games, goes into The National Lottery’s Good Causes fund, with over £33 billion donated to UK health, education, environment, charity, sport, the arts and heritage foundations to date.
