Lottery remains popular as ever

Last Updated: Monday 30th July 2018, 14:20

A study in Northern Ireland has shown that the National Lottery remains as popular as ever for players with at least half of all people surveyed having bought lottery tickets. The survey, into the gambling habits of players in Northern Ireland, shows that 3 out of 4 Irish players bet, with the biggest proportion of that on Lotto tickets. But while the lottery is popular,  the study also showed that less than 2% of players have problem with gambling.

That should certainly please the soothsayers who claimed that the National Lottery would create a nation of addicts. Even 16 years after its launch, the National Lottery isn’t causing problem gamblers, but it is creating many millionaires.

Comparisons to the rest of the UK, show the trends continue, but on the mainland just 0.6% of lottery players are considered problem gamblers. Everyone seems to keep the art of buying lottery tickets in check and have fun with the National Lottery.

It’s Wednesday today and that means that it’s Lotto day, tonight the Lotto draw will take place in the UK and the estimated jackpot for the draw is £2.4 million. In our lottery countdown to Christmas there are not many draws left, so don’t forget to buy lottery tickets for this one, for your chance to become a lotto millionaire, just in time for Christmas! Good luck all those buying lottery tickets for tonight’s draw, don’t forget to check back later for all the lottery results!
