Lotto Grants for open spaces

Last Updated: Thursday 24th September 2020, 16:01

Creating green spaces is a big priority for the Parks for People programme and they have been looking for lottery funding to transform parks and green spaces around the UK. Well today the Parks for People Programme received some fantastic news from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery fund by being awarded a massive £18 million grant to update six green spaces around the UK.

There are six parks and green spaces in total receiving the awards from the lottery fund which will transform these six parks and then ensure they are properly maintained for future generations to continue to enjoy the green spaces they have on offer.

The six parks to receive the lottery awards for good causes are:

  • Spinney Hill Park, Leicester
  • Stewart Park, Middlesbrough
  • St James’ Park, Southampton
  • Howard Park and Gardens, Letchworth Garden City
  • Stamford Park, Tameside
  • Queens Park, Bolton

£18 million may seem a lot of money but this grant from the lottery funds will reverse years of under-investment in green spaces in the UK. Park budgets are under threat in these difficult times which is why this initiative is giving green spaces a priority.

You can join the scheme by highlighting what is needed in your own open spaces, write a letter to the council and make your park a priority and ensure that people can enjoy the space for years to come.

Of course most importantly, keep buying lottery tickets to ensure that these schemes continue to have the money they need.
