Last Updated: Friday 1st October 2010, 23:01

A man given the nickname, the most generous lottery winner ever has died aged 59. Paul Bristow won £15 million back in 2004 but sadly passed away yesterday aged 59. He hit the headlines for his generosity after ploughing money back into his community including saving his football club and making a huge donation to the local Scout Troup that he and his wife run.

Paul Bristow and his wife Thea first hit the headlines in 2004 when you landed a UK Lotto win of £15 million, they could have moved away, gone to sunnier climes and improved their lives in many ways but they chose to stay and help their local community.

Straight after his lottery win, Mr Bristow took the Scout troop he and his wife ran on a private plane to Canada for a two-week break costing £500,000 and then he saved his beloved Torquay football club and they in particular are mourning his death today.

Mr Bristow made a huge donation to buy a vast number of shares in Torquay football Club, making him vice-chairman and it was the club who were first to speak about his death. The club released a message today to say how saddened they were to hear about Mr Bristow’s death and to send condolences to his family.

It’s a sad day when someone so good dies so young but Mr Bristow does stand as a lasting testament on the good you can do with a lottery win, should you chose to.
