National Lottery count lost winners

Last Updated: Monday 30th July 2018, 12:44

All around the world, on all sorts of lottery draws there are always some prizes that just don’t get claimed. While they don’t make up a huge total of lottery winners, it’s still frustrating, especially as it’s often a life-changing lottery jackpot. No one really understands why some players don’t check their lottery tickets but this week the National Lottery count lost winners, to give players an idea of just how much they’re losing out on.

Often we bring you stories of lottery prizes that are soon to expire. If you play the National Lottery or Euromillions then you have just 180 days after the draw to claim your prize before it’s added to the fund for good causes. Now the National Lottery have added up all these prizes, from across all the lottery draws to let players know how much they have missed out on, and it’s a staggering £1.1 billion!

It’s a great amount to go to charity, but still sad to see this huge amount of money not go to the rightful winners. Why is it that players buy lottery tickets and then don’t even check the lottery results? Who knows, but we’re sure they’d kick themselves if they’d known just how much they missed out on.

The best thing to do to ensure you don’t end up being part of the National Lottery statistics is to buy lottery tickets online, that way you never need miss another draw and if you’re a lucky winner, the National Lottery will send you an email to let you know!

In other lottery news, it’s Friday and that’s Euromillions day so if you want to play for that £51 million jackpot it’s time to buy lottery tickets now. And keep them in a safe place!
