Saturday’s €5.5 million Irish Lottery Jackpot Winner Claims Prize

Last Updated: Friday 21st March 2014, 17:00

The winners of Saturday’s €5.5 million Irish Lottery jackpot have come forward to claim their prize just days after successfully matching all six numbers.

The winning couple, who have opted to remain anonymous, claimed their prize from Irish Lottery officials after a sleepless night during which they kept their ticket under a pillow for safekeeping. The couple realised on Sunday that they were the sole winners of Ireland’s largest National Lottery jackpot for three months and have described the experience so far as “surreal”.

“I didn’t sleep a wink last night. I’ve never won anything before,” one of the winners told lottery officials in Dublin. “It’s amazing to be in a position to pay off all the bills and look after our families.”

The couple bought their ticket, a €4 Quick Pick, from Michael Corbett’s shop in the village of Quin, County Clare, on the day of the draw. Corbett said he first found out that he had sold the winning ticket after receiving a call at 08.00 on Monday morning.

“I was a bit worried about who could be phoning me at 8am but it was the rep from the Lotto. It's great news,” he told a local reporter. Although it has not been confirmed where the winners are from, Corbett hopes the winners are local. “Everyone is hoping it’s a local winner. But this is a tourist area with a lot of passing trade. Dromoland Castle is just two miles down the road,” he pointed out.

National-Lottery.com wishes the winning couple the best of luck with their newfound fortune. Meanwhile, there is a brand new Irish Lottery jackpot worth €2 million to play for tonight and tickets can be purchased online by visiting the Lottery Tickets page. Good luck!
