UK Lotto Jackpot Claimed by Mother and Son

Last Updated: Friday 21st March 2014, 17:00

The holders of the £7.5 million jackpot winning ticket from Saturday’s UK Lotto draw have come forward to claim their prize. The winners came forward on Tuesday and were identified as Doreen Hay and her son John Hay.

Doreen, 70, and her son John, a cable engineer, found out that they had won the jackpot on Sunday morning when Doreen checked the numbers in the newspaper. When Doreen realised she had matched all six main numbers to win the jackpot, she phoned her son and said “John, you’ll have to come over, I think we’ve won the lottery.”

Speaking at the press conference on Tuesday, John said: “I checked the numbers three times and couldn’t believe it so I sat down and then checked again. It was then I released we’d won £7.5 million.”

With the new found fortune, Doreen plans to buy a new home, treat her family and donate to the charities Help for Heroes, WaterAid, Save The Children, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and a local hospice. John plans to buy his dream home and travel the world with his partner Susan and three stepchildren with his winnings.

This win now brings the number of UK Lotto jackpot wins so far this month to three, with top prize winnings for January coming to just over £23.2 million.
