UK Lotto Results Reveal High Number of Winners

Last Updated: Thursday 21st August 2014, 12:42

Last night’s UK Lotto results revealed that an unusually high number of players matched a winning combination to take home a prize. The mid-week UK Lotto draw saw a total of 236,339 players share a prize pool of £6,557,069, while an additional £1 million was shared between the 50 Lotto Raffle winners.

The high number of winners in last night’s draw can be attributed to the fact that the main UK Lotto numbers drawn all fell below 31 and as many lottery players use birthdays and specials dates to select their numbers, it resulted in just over 236,000 players winning a prize compared to just over 119,500 in last Wednesday’s draw.

The volume of winners had the unfortunate result that most winning ticket holders secured lower prizes than usual. Two players matched all six main numbers to share the jackpot prize pool of £720,152 and a further seven ticket holders who matched five main numbers plus the Bonus Ball to each win £8,211. There were 464 players who each won £105 for matching five main numbers while the fourth prize tier saw 16,593 players match four main numbers to win a controversial and remarkably small prize of just £15 each. The UK Lotto prize for matching just three main numbers is fixed at £25 and so, rather bizarrely, all of the 219,273 winners in this prize tier took home a larger prize those who matched four main numbers!

In the additional Lotto Raffle draw, 50 players matched one of the winning codes drawn to each win £20,000. The full list of Lotto Raffle codes from last night’s draw can be found on the UK Lotto Results page.

As the top prize was won last night, it means Saturday’s draw now offers a brand new jackpot estimated at £4.1 million. If you can’t wait until Saturday to be in with a chance of becoming a lottery winner, turn your attention to tomorrow night’s EuroMillions draw as there is a quadruple rollover jackpot of £37 million at stake.

Tickets for both draws can be purchased online through the Lottery Tickets page or in person from an authorised retailer.

Good luck!
