UK Player Claims New Year’s Day EuroMillions Jackpot

Last Updated: Monday 4th January 2021, 10:34

The first EuroMillions draw of 2021 created 11 new millionaires in the UK, including one lucky jackpot winner who scooped the £39 million top prize. The draw followed a record-breaking 2020 for EuroMillions.

The special draw on Friday 1st January featured 10 winning Millionaire Maker codes instead of the usual one. This meant that 10 players were guaranteed to receive £1 million, boosting the odds of a huge win considerably. Go to the EuroMillions Results page to see all the winning codes.

The numbers for the main draw were 16, 28, 32, 44 and 48, plus Lucky Stars 1 and 9. Out of all the tickets sold for the draw across Europe, a single entry matched the full set of numbers to land the jackpot.

The entry was sold in the UK and the winner has wasted no time in coming forward to claim their money. Andy Carter, the National Lottery’s Senior Winners’ Advisor, said: “What a start to 2021 for EuroMillions players.

“Not only did the giant jackpot get won in the UK, but a further 10 lucky players banked £1 million in the Millionaire Maker event. In all, over 900,000 UK players won a prize in the New Year’s Day draw.

“It is fantastic news that the jackpot winning lucky ticket-holder has now claimed this enormous prize. We will now focus on supporting the ticket-holder through the process."

Record 2020

The UK produced five EuroMillions winners in 2020. The biggest of those came on Tuesday 27th October, when a ticket holder scooped more than £79 million.

A new EuroMillions record was then set in December after the jackpot climbed to €200 million (£183 million), its highest-ever amount. A player from France came forward before the end of the year to claim the money.

The jackpot cap was reset to €210 million following the record win, making it possible that the latest mark could be eclipsed in the coming months. You can take part in EuroMillions every Tuesday and Friday by going to a National Lottery retailer or choosing your numbers online.
