£3 Million Postcode Lottery Success for St Helens Residents

Last Updated: Friday 25th August 2017, 11:01

Residents in St Helens are preparing to celebrate a massive £3 million win, thanks to the Postcode Lottery. Players in the WA9 5 area of the northern town could end the month up to £400,000 richer after their address was selected at random as the winner of the lottery’s August Millions prize.

Over the next few days, lucky players will receive a letter confirming their win and inviting them to attend a special presentation event at Victoria Square on Saturday 2nd September. At the gathering, the exact winning postcode will be revealed, with residents in that area scooping a larger slice of the prize money.

The presentation, which will be attended by players who entered August’s Postcode Lottery draw, is set to be hosted by the organisation’s representative Judie McCourt. “I can’t wait to get to St Helens and hand out some nice big cheques,” the former radio and television personality told reporters. “I love meeting the players and having a fantastic celebration. Good luck to everyone who plays in WA9 5.”

With the amount of money won by each player remaining a mystery, there will be plenty of fingers crossed in the lead up to the presentation. However, hopes will be high ahead of the September soiree, especially after last month’s giveaway saw a participant from Hove land a prize worth £257,287, while a winner from Bolton-upon-Dearn scooped £450,000 in June’s draw.

Playing the Postcode Lottery helps support a wide number of good causes, with 31 percent of the money used to buy every ticket finding its way into the hands of over 3,000 charitable organisations across the UK. To date, the game has raised more than £221.2 million.
