California Super Lotto Winner

Last Updated: Wednesday 7th August 2013, 13:00

A single lottery ticket won a massive $93 million in the California SuperLOTTO Plus draw held on Saturday 1 September, making Labor Day something extra special for the lucky owner. It is not yet known whether the ticket, which was purchased in Alameda, California, belongs to an individual player or to a syndicate, but either way there are sure to be plenty of celebrations when the winner(s) check their numbers. The winning numbers were 5, 14, 22, 39 and 47 and the MEGA number was 10.

The proximity of this draw to the Labor Day holiday in the USA means that, although California Lottery officials know where the ticket was purchased, it doesn't necessarily follow that the ticket holder actually resides in Alameda - it could just easily have been a tourist passing through the area. All California lottery players are therefore being urged to check their tickets carefully and to spread the word that somebody, somewhere has won an amount that will change their lives forever.

The SuperLOTTO Plus game requires players to select 5 numbers from 1 to 47 and one MEGA numbers from 1 to 27. There are two draws each week, on Wednesday and Saturday, and the jackpot starts at $7 million but can climb rapidly thanks to the prize fund rolling over if nobody manages to match all six numbers. Those players who do win a jackpot prize can choose to receive a single lump sum or to receive a larger amount in the form of annual payments over 26 years.

SuperLOTTO Plus is organised by the California State Lottery, which was established in 1985. From every $1 raised from lottery ticket sales, 34 cents is used to support public education and 50 cents is paid out in prize money. To date, some $19 billion has been given to California schools.
