Millionaire Raffle Win for Syndicate

Last Updated: Wednesday 5th February 2014, 07:35 am

Millionaire Raffle Win for SyndicateA EuroMillions lottery ticket doesn’t necessarily have to succeed in the main game to change your life on a Friday night. Just ask Simon Ashcroft, a 22 year old engineer from Sutton Coldfield who formed a lottery syndicate with ten of his friends last September. His syndicate buys eleven tickets for every draw, and on Friday 31st January one of those tickets got particularly lucky, not in the EuroMillions game itself, but in the Millionaire Raffle draw, where success is worth £1,000,000!

Simon didn’t realise that the syndicate had won big money until Saturday night, when he logged into his online lottery account to check his tickets. He had been sent an email telling him that one of his tickets was a winner, but he hadn’t been told how much the prize was worth. ‘At first I thought nothing of it as we have often won a couple of pounds,’ Simon explained, ‘ but when I went into the account and realised it was £1 million it was just unbelievable. Phenomenal is the word that keeps coming to mind.’

The other syndicate members were equally taken aback by the news of their success. ‘A lot of the lads are still in shock,’ Simon said. ‘I’m a bit of a joker and no-one really believed me to begin with.’

When the news of their win finally sank in, the eleven friends started thinking about what to do with their share of the prize. £1 million split eleven ways gives each member a personal windfall worth £90,909, and so far the To Do lists are focusing on booking holidays, buying new cars and investing in property. ‘We all just feel ridiculously lucky,’ Simon admits, ‘especially as we only played our first game in September. I’ve never even won a raffle at the fair.’

Whilst Simon and his friends busy themselves with their spending plans, the rest of our lottery-loving nation is looking forward to the games coming up in the next few days. The jackpot for the EuroMillions game this Friday will be worth around £21 million and we also have a midweek Lotto jackpot of around £2.2 million to play for this evening.
