No champagne for lottery winners

Last Updated: Tuesday 31st May 2011, 15:00

Lottery SyndicateA celebration by a syndicate of health workers fell flat after they were not allowed to open the champagne. The group of NHS workers are celebrating a £1.3 million win on the National Lottery main draw, but were disappointed when NHS bosses prevented them from having a glass of bubbly to celebrate. The thirty-strong syndicate scooped £1.3 million on the UK Lotto draw and have played since the lottery launched in 1994.

Each of the winners will now collect over £44,000 after their luck came in on the lottery, and even though they weren’t allowed to open the champagne, there will now be plenty of time for a Lotto celebrations!

When lottery officials came to present the workers with their cheque, as is traditional, all the workers were handed a glass of champagne. However, NHS bosses said the alcohol was against hospital rules, and so the celebration, and photo call took place without the fizzy celebrations.

They group have been warned by their bosses that she won’t be accepting any resignations, but thankfully the team are all happy in their jobs and have no plans to quit.

However, the day wasn’t all good news, the lottery syndicate head retired late last year and has missed out on her share by just a few months! How disappointed she must be after running the syndicate since 1994 to have missed out by less than six months? Maybe the girls will treat her to something nice, they can all certainly afford it now.
