Players from Scarborough struck gold yesterday and in April it was Nottingham, but the big question for lottery fans this month is where will be the next lucky postcode? The June edition of the People’s Postcode Lottery will once again give participants the chance to grab a slice of a £2 million prize pot, and anticipation is building as news spreads of the good fortune shared by ticket holders across the Yorkshire seaside town.
In the Postcode Lottery, tickets are based on your postcode and there are draws every day. From Monday to Friday, winning tickets in five postcodes snap up £1,000 each, while on Sunday there is £10 each for every ticket in 15,000 postcodes. Saturdays give players the opportunity to win £25,000 for every winning ticket, and there are monthly draws when one postcode gets an extra special reward. Dream holidays and BMWs are also up for grabs in certain draws.
The Postcode Millions draw for May matched up with YO11 3JG in Scarborough, and players who had the full postcode split £1 million. One ticket holder, Nigel Howard, revealed after he had won that he would no longer have any financial worries as he would be able to pay off his mortgage as he had won £333,333. He also admitted that the secret of his success might have been a lucky stone that he had been given by a shop assistant on holiday in Tenerife, as he had also won £2,700 on a horse racing bet.
The £2 million prize pot was split between 239 players in total in the winning postcode sector YO11 3, and cash prizes were worth between £826 and £666,666. One winner also received a brand new BMW 1 Series, which is another monthly prize, and People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt admitted it had felt wonderful to give out so many cheques. She said: “It has been a fantastic day here in Scarborough. I can’t believe we’ve just given away £2 million.”
Players in another postcode will experience the same feeling as the lucky winners from Scarborough this weekend when the £25,000 Saturday Street Prize draw is held. It could just be that the People’s Postcode Lottery lands where you live, giving every local ticket holder a reason to smile.
