Ayrshire Builder Wins £300,000 on National Lottery Scratchcard

A builder from Ayrshire is £300,000 richer after winning big on a National Lottery scratchcard. David Abercrombie hit the jackpot after purchasing a Lucky Lines Yellow Scratchcard from a store on Dumbarton Road in Glasgow shortly before he was due to start work.
Upon arriving on-site, the 26-year-old wasted no time at all in scratching the card and was stunned by the sight that greeted him. David told reporters: “I said to my workmate ‘I’ve won the top prize’. He didn’t believe me at first and took it off me to see for himself. Everyone was cheering when they realised I’d won.”
Experiencing a mix of shock and excitement, the Irvine resident hurried back to the shop from which he had purchased the ticket to have the six-figure success confirmed: “They advised me to call the National Lottery line because it was such a big win.”
However, when a delighted David tried to call, he was greeted with some distressing news: “The worst thing was it was only 7.30am and I had to wait until 9am for the claim line to open.” As the seconds ticked by, the bewildered bricky’s eagerness to call grew and grew: “The minute the clock hit 9 I was straight on the phone. I can’t tell you how I felt waiting for that hour and a half.”
David, who admitted to keeping a firm hold of the £3 scratchcard in his pocket for the rest of the day, was quick to make plans as to how the prize money would be spent, although his girlfriend informed him to “be wise” with his winnings: “We will be buying a bigger house so my two little girls will get bedrooms of their own – they’ve already started picking out the décor,” he revealed. Of course, no win would be complete without the obligatory new motor, with the family man eyeing a brand new Mercedes.
Once he had collected his jackpot, David found himself in a reflective mood: “I have always said things like this don’t happen to people like me but I was obviously in the right place at the right time.” However, despite the win, the Scotsman remains adamant that his good fortune isn’t quite over yet: “I think I will keep buying my weekly scratchcard and see if lottery luck strikes twice.”
