Couple Select £11.2 Million Winning Lotto Numbers but Win Just £50

Last Updated: Friday 19th June 2015, 10:06 am

Marie and Dave Flory, who manage the Cumberland Arms in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, were excited to win £50 on the pub’s bingo lottery game last Saturday 13th June, however that joy soon turned to bitter disappointment. By coincidence, the numbers they selected for the fun pub sweepstake happened to also be the numbers drawn in that evening’s triple rollover Lotto draw, which would have netted them £11.2 million had they played the same line on a Lotto ticket!

Lottery Bingo has been a firm fixture of Saturdays at the hostelry since the Florys took over last year and sees bingo balls being randomly drawn to form a winning line, much like in the real Lotto game. While it can roll over, the usual jackpot at the Cumberland is around £50, compared to a basic top prize of £2.1 million for a Wednesday Lotto draw and £4.1 million at the weekend. On the day in question, the Lotto jackpot had been rolling over since Saturday 30th May.

Had Marie and Dave chosen to play their Lottery Bingo numbers - 18, 23, 25, 37, 39 and 47 - for the Lotto draw, they would have been the only winners of the £11.2 million prize pot. Instead, the jackpot rolled over again, with three players sharing a £12.9 million bounty on Wednesday 17th June. Check out the full prize breakdown for that draw at the Lottery Results section and discover if you have had better luck than the Florys.

Dave confessed that he had been upset by the affair, stating “It’s embarrassing but it’s gutting that I could have had six numbers on the lottery.” He also vowed to ensure that he bought a Lotto ticket for the next draw. The couple say that they would have been able to spend some of the millions on offer on holidays, their daughter’s wedding and celebrations for their 30th wedding anniversary, with Marie admitting, “I can’t stop thinking about the ‘what ifs’.”

Saturday’s Lotto jackpot will stand at £4.1 million, with tickets available now. If you need any help choosing your lucky line, visit the Lotto Number Generator, which will guarantee a truly random selection of numbers that might just be your springboard to the millionaire lifestyle.
