Driven to Succeed

A lorry driver from Bolton discovered that second tier prizes in the EuroMillions lottery can be worth their weight in gold when he scooped £259,708 by matching five main numbers and one Lucky Star number.
David Dobbs didn't discover his win until his wife Marie told him the good news on Saturday morning, and even then he thought she was joking.
"We were up early on Saturday as Marie has two horses that she looks after," David explained. "She was getting ready to go to the stables so she went on the computer to check the EuroMillions Results. When she came to tell me we'd won I initially thought she was winding me up. I couldn't believe it was happening to us. We checked the numbers a few times before it began to sink in."
David's numbers were selected at random for the EuroMillions draw on 22 June, 2007, which gave the winning numbers 11, 16, 17, 22 and 34 and 5 and 6 as the Lucky Star numbers. The couple are now planning to spend their money wisely.
"The win is fantastic. It will allow us to buy a new home, without needing a mortgage, and that's a massive bonus for us," David said. "We are also planning to get a new car and have a relaxing holiday in Turkey. I'm originally from Yorkshire so I won't be doing anything daft with the money!"
Whilst the odds of winning the EuroMillions jackpot outright are just 1 in 76,275,360, the odds of matching five main numbers and one Lucky Star number, as David did, are a much better 1 in 5,448,240.
And for anyone who has never played the EuroMillions lottery before, this is as good a time as any to get started - the jackpot for the draw on Friday 13 July stands at an estimated £36 million!
