An Edinburgh painter and decorator is set to paint the town red after scooping £7 million in Saturday night’s Lotto Rollover draw. Willie Sibbald, 48, from Moredun, matched all six numbers on his Lucky Dip ticket but he missed the moment his numbers came up as he had fallen asleep in front of the television. It was only later that he caught the winning line during a programme break and realised he was a multi-millionaire.
Reflecting on his win Mr Sibbald said, “I was staying the night at my aunt’s house and when I saw the numbers I shouted through to her ‘I’ve won the Lottery!’. She came through and we checked the ticket again and again.
“My brother was on a night out so I waited until the following morning and called his wife to pass on the good news. She didn’t believe me at first and thought I was joking – it’s not exactly a call you expect on a Sunday morning!”
The football fanatic is planning to use some of the money to learn to drive so he can get to the matches of the Scottish national side during their European Championships qualifying campaign.
He said, “I’m a big fan of the Scottish national side and try to go to as many games as I can. I will be at the qualifier for the European Championships on 7th September and at least now I won’t have to worry about getting to the rest of the away matches!”
The winning ticket was bought at the newsagents on Moredun Park Road, Moredun and matched the winning Lotto numbers 16, 36, 40, 43, 45, 47 and Bonus Ball 10 for the draw on 9th August.
There is a UK Lotto jackpot of £2.1 million up for grabs in tonight’s draw so don’t forget to buy your tickets in time. To be in with a chance of becoming the UK Lotto’s latest millionaire, you can purchase your tickets online from our Lottery Tickets Page or from authorised retailers.
