An action group who are working to restore Darwen’s heritage have received a lovely cash Christmas present from the National Lottery. The friends of Darwen’s cemetery has been granted the money from the Awards for All Big Lottery Fund in the form of a lottery grant and the £10,000 will certainly make a difference to the group. The group launched in March to restore the dilapidated Darwen Old Cemetery and now hope this lottery cash will allow them to improve the cemetery and conditions for visitors.
It’s one of the many end of year awards that have been paid out by the National Lottery in the last few weeks, something that will continue into the New Year. The group of volunteers had already received a lottery grant of over £5,000 and now that has been matched by the Awards for All Big Lottery Fund.
It is hoped now that the cemetery will be able to build some footpaths, encourage bird-watchers and learn about nature, while bringing the community together for the new project and all thanks to this lottery grant from the National Lottery good causes.
These lottery projects are only possible of course because of the sale of lottery tickets as every single lottery ticket you buy, increases the fund for good causes in the UK. It’s a great way to do your bit for charity, and be in with a chance of winning a life-changing lottery prize while you do so, guaranteed feel-good factor!
