Noel Returns To BBC1

Last Updated: Wednesday 7th August 2013, 14:52

Some twelve years after he presented the first ever National Lottery show on BBC One, Noel Edmonds will be returning to the channel to host the National Lottery Day show on Saturday 23 September.

Edmonds left the channel seven years ago after his own show Noel Edmond's House Party was axed due to a slump in ratings, and subsequently disappeared from the public eye. However, his career has recently undergone a dramatic revival with a popular Channel 4 show Deal Or No Deal getting consistently good ratings. The presenter has said that his professional resurrection was in some way due to his belief in certain metaphysical concepts - concepts which he touches on in his autobiographical book Positively Happy, published in July of this year.

National Lottery Day is a "two-part 90-minute extravaganza" which celebrates the Good Causes that have been supported by the National Lottery since its launch. It includes a one-off game show called Everyone's A Winner, which will feature celebrity guests as well as regular contestants competing for big prizes.

National Lottery Day will also feature the National Lottery Awards. These highlight how various Lottery-funded projects have helped to change the lives of people all over the country. In addition, the show will bring news coverage of some of the National Lottery Day events that are schedule to take place throughout the UK.

Commenting on the show, Noel Edmonds said: "I relish the opportunity of once again hosting a major live TV event for the BBC, and look forward to developing exciting new programme ideas compatible with my long-term commitment to Deal or No Deal."

Peter Fincham, Controller of BBC One was similarly optimistic, saying, "Noel is a presenter of immense talent and it is great to have him back on BBC ONE - this marks the beginning of a new chapter between Noel and the channel, we hope he will present more innovative live TV specials."

Whether Noel will once again become a regular presenter for BBC remains to be seen, but for now we can all look forward to seeing him host National Lottery Day on Saturday 23 September.
