Lotto Purple Patch

Last Updated: Friday 28th February 2014, 16:57

A horse racing fan from Blyth in Northumberland is celebrating his very own "purple patch" after winning a Lotto jackpot worth £2,745,415 on Wednesday 30 May. Michael Fox, who is 64, has five children and fourteen grandchildren. As well as enjoying the Sport of Kings he is also a keen Formula One racing fan.

Michael discovered his seven-figure win as he watched the Lotto draw take place on television. "I was watching the draw live on TV and was checking my ticket as the balls came out," he said. "I couldn't believe it when the first four came out. When I realised I had all six numbers I was shocked."

Like most National Lottery winners, Michael couldn't wait to tell people about his incredible stroke of fortune. "I double-checked everything and then started to spread the good news," he said. "I called all my children who were all very excited for me. I'm lucky to have such a large and close-knit family - it will be a real pleasure for me now to be able to help them out."

Michael plans to treat his family and also to buy himself a new home and a new car, with a Volvo being his most likely choice. In addition, he is keen to take his interest in Formula One racing to the next level by going to see at least one race live.

"It's a dream come true," Michael said. "I always watch the Grand Prix on TV but could never have believed I would actually be able to afford to go. I'm going to thoroughly enjoy this incredible good fortune."

Yesterday's Lotto rollover jackpot of £8,036,628 was shared by two winners, so the estimated jackpot for the next draw on Saturday 09 June is £4,600,000. If that isn't quite tantalising enough for you, the Euromillions jackpot for tomorrow is an estimated £10 million.
