Powerball Makes a Splash With 87,698 UK Winners in First Draw

More than 87,000 UK players enjoyed their first taste of Powerball as they picked up prizes in Thursday morning’s draw. However, nobody matched all the numbers so the jackpot will now rise to an incredible £322 million for the next draw at the weekend. Winning Numbers
Having been played in the U.S. for more than 30 years, Powerball officially expanded internationally on Tuesday morning as the game launched in the UK. Lottery fans rushed to take part ahead of the cut-off time for the first draw at 11:55pm on Wednesday.
The winning numbers were drawn at around 4:00 am on Thursday (that’s because the draw is held in Tallahassee, Florida), allowing UK players to check their tickets as soon as they woke up in the morning.
The numbers were revealed to be 4, 5, 22, 50 and 58, with a Powerball of 1. The biggest UK winner in the draw was the player who matched four main numbers plus the Powerball to land £70,188. Other prizes ranged from £8 in the Match 2 category to £1,278 for matching four numbers.

How UK Powerball Works
UK Powerball is a slightly different version of the game to the one you may have played before if you’ve ever bought a ticket on a trip to the U.S. It costs £4 per ticket, but has better odds of winning as there is a prize for matching two main numbers.
If you’re lucky enough to win the jackpot in the UK, you’ll receive the money in 30 annual instalments rather than a lump sum (there is a one-time cash option in the U.S.). This makes the total payout larger than if the same prize was offered as a lump sum, while it also gives you the financial security of a guaranteed income for the next three decades.
Thursday’s jackpot, which ended up being worth £308 million, set a record for the biggest lottery prize to have ever been offered in the UK, and it is a record that will keep getting broken until someone matches all the numbers. The next chance to win will be in the draw that takes place on Sunday morning.
