Ticket Mistake Won A Million!

Last Updated: Wednesday 7th August 2013, 16:06

Many of us insist on playing the same lottery numbers week after week, and we can get quite annoyed when we find that we have accidentally marked the wrong one on our entry slip. But as one Derby couple will tell you, sometimes a simple mistake can pay off handsomely.

Donald and Ann Webster are avid Derby County supporters who always play the same line of numbers for the Saturday Lotto draw. However, when he was marking his numbers in a Sainsbury's store for the draw to be held on May 6th, Donald made a mistake that would change his life forever.

"We always play a line of the same numbers on Saturday but on this occasion, however, I accidentally marked 33 instead of 34." said Donald. "When I told my wife Ann she persuaded me to leave it as it was so I kept 33, marked 34 and left out our usual number 43 completely."

Ann's persuasion paid off. That Saturday, the couple won a share of the Lotto jackpot - a sum of £1,023,801!

"It was just an amazing feeling when our numbers came up," Donald continued. "Now we are busy planning what to do with our win. It's just incredible what happened."

Ann has already come up with a few ideas about how they might spend some of their new-found wealth. "The first thing I'm going to do is upgrade our flights for our annual holiday to Florida," she said. "We love going there and this time we can look forward to travelling in real luxury."

The couple have two sons, and one of them is planning to get married in December. Ann said, "We promised our son a honeymoon as a wedding present and we can now make sure the trip really is the holiday of a lifetime."

A simple mistake has made Donald and Ann Webster millionaires, so the next time you accidentally mark the wrong numbers on your slip, you might want to think twice before throwing it away and starting again!
