£119.8 Million EuroMillions Jackpot Won By Swiss History Maker

A EuroMillions player from Switzerland has made history after landing a jackpot of £119.8 million in the draw on Tuesday 19th December. The ticket holder, who is yet to make themselves known to Swiss lottery officials, correctly matched the numbers 8, 15, 30, 38, 46 and the Lucky Stars 4 and 7 to secure the nine-figure sum and set up what promises to be a sensational start to 2018.
This is the first time a player from the federal republic has won the jackpot since March 2014, when a single entrant from the Swisslos region claimed £21.3 million. The reward, which works out at around CHF157 million, is also the largest prize ever won by a Swiss player, dwarfing the previous record of £80.7 million set in August 2013.
Currently ranked as the eleventh biggest prize in EuroMillions history and the largest victory in any December, this takes the overall number of jackpot wins up to an impressive 379 since the game began in 2004. Of those victories, 16 have occurred in Switzerland, a number which sees the nation famed for its production of cheese, chocolate and cuckoo clocks tighten its grip on sixth place in the winners’ table, narrowly ahead of neighbouring Austria which currently boasts 14 victories.

After ending a run of 12 successive rollovers, Tuesday’s win may have been the major talking point, but there were plenty of other prizes scooped on what proved to be a joyous night for over 2.2 million ticket holders. Two Brits were amongst three players to land a Match 5+1 prize of £285,288, while a further two UK players joined a group of seven in winning a Match 5 prize of £28,477.
