Belgian Ticket Holder Wins £134.8 Million EuroMillions Jackpot
Last Updated: Monday 5th June 2017, 09:52
After 14 consecutive rollovers, Friday night saw a player from Belgium end weeks of waiting by winning a EuroMillions jackpot of £134.8 million (€153.8 million). By landing the nine-figure sum, the lucky ticket holder, who is yet to make contact with lottery officials, became the winner of the pan-European game’s biggest prize of 2017.
The winning EuroMillions numbers were 8, 10, 24, 33 and 42, with 3 and 9 appearing as the two Lucky Stars. In addition to the jackpot winner, seven fortunate lottery fans, including one UK ticket holder, scooped a reward worth £178,884 after matching five main numbers and one of the two Lucky Stars.
Despite the jackpot evading the capture of UK ticket holders, players across the nation were able to get their hands on an array of prizes in a number of the other prize tiers on offer. Seven entrants were amongst 23 players able to land a Match 5 prize of £12,680, while 16 of the 111 participants to prosper in the Match 4+2 tier and collect £1,285 were Brits.
A further 3,819,292 ticket holders experienced that winning feeling in the draw, collecting prizes ranging from £2.60 for matching two main numbers to £83.20 for matching four main numbers and one Lucky Star. There was also joy for two UK ticket holders who walked away with £1 million apiece after matching one of the two Millionaire Maker codes drawn. This latest win marks the 29th time a Belgian player has won the EuroMillions jackpot since the game’s inception in February 2004. It also caps off what has been a successful eight month period for the European nation, following the good fortune of a player from Brussels who pocketed a €168 million jackpot on Tuesday 11th October. Belgium now finds itself just one success short of the magical 30 win mark, but still some way adrift of Portugal (64 wins) on the winners’ table.
This latest victory means that the jackpot total has reset to £14 million ahead of Tuesday’s draw. If you would like to be in with a chance of joining the 366 players to have tasted sweet EuroMillions jackpot victory, you can pick your numbers online or play via any authorised retailer. Good luck.
