Cardiff Retailer Wins Share of £50,000 Ahead of National Lottery Changes

Last Updated: Thursday 24th September 2020, 10:40

National Lottery operator Camelot has lavished one Cardiff-based retailer with a share of a £50,000 prize. Business owner Tariq Perwez was presented with a cheque for £5,000 in recognition of his support for the impending introduction of EuroMillions HotPicks and Tuesday Thunderball draws.

Promoting EuroMillions HotPicks

In an effort to promote the latest additions, lottery officials have been encouraging businesses across the UK to show their support, with cash prizes on offer for stores throughout the country. Available every month in the lead up to the launch, five retailers will each win £1,000, while another lucky store will secure a prize of £5,000. There will also be a special New Year draw which will see ten prizes of £1,000 given away and a bumper reward of £20,000 presented to one lucky winner.

Perwez, who has helped run the family owned business for the past 38 years, became the first winner of the £5,000 prize on offer and was understandably delighted to receive a call confirming his win. “It’s still not really sunk in,” the November winner told Talking Retail. “I didn’t believe it at first. I even tried to ring back to double-check.”

National Lottery Changes

The planned changes are set to be introduced in January 2018 and are expected to be well-received by lottery lovers across the country. The first addition to make its debut will be EuroMillions HotPicks, a game similar in style to Lotto HotPicks, which requires players to choose how many numbers they wish to match in a single EuroMillions draw. Awards range from £10 for matching just one number to an incredible £1 million for correctly predicting five numbers, a prize which is considerably greater than the Match 5 reward available in the main EuroMillions game.

The second big change that is certain to thrill lottery fans across the UK is the introduction of a Tuesday Thunderball draw. Designed to give players an extra chance to win a guaranteed jackpot of £500,000, this will bring the total number of Thunderball draws up to four per week.

EuroMillions HotPicks will be available to play ahead of the EuroMillions draw on Friday 26th January, while the first Tuesday Thunderball draw will take place on Tuesday 30th January. Additional plans to introduce an annuity-style game, where players receive weekly, monthly or annual payments for a set period of time, are ongoing, but no date has yet been set.

If you simply cannot wait for these exciting changes to be introduced, why not pick your numbers online ahead of this Friday’s £94 million EuroMillions draw, or join a syndicate and play for a guaranteed prize of £500,000 in what promises to be a thrilling weekend of Thunderball action? Good luck!
