Colchester Lotto Winner Claims £8.1 Million

Last Updated: Thursday 24th September 2020, 14:16

A lucky Lotto winner from Colchester has been congratulated after coming forward to collect a fantastic prize of £8.1 million. The money had been unclaimed since three ticket holders split £24.4 million on Wednesday 14th September, when the jackpot had to be won after exceeding its cap.

Once the jackpot goes past £22 million, the rules of the game dictate that the money must be given away in the next draw. As nobody matched all six main numbers on 14th September, the full amount was shared between a trio of lucky participants who matched five main numbers and the Bonus Ball.

National Lottery officials say they are ‘delighted’ that the Colchester winner has now come forward and hope they will enjoy the big win. Senior winners’ advisor Andy Carter added: “It would have been awful if the ticket holder had missed out on this substantial and life-changing amount of money.”

There is no immediate rush to claim prizes as winners have a deadline of 180 days from the date of the draw to come forward, and there has been no word yet from the player who won last Wednesday’s Lotto jackpot of £26.1 million. However,  time is running out for a mystery ticket holder from Havant in Hampshire, who won £1 million in Lotto Millionaire Raffle on Wednesday 4th May and has yet to step forward to make a claim.

The winning code was one of two drawn on the night and you can find them at the Lotto Results page. If the owner of the ticket does not make contact with National Lottery officials by next Monday, 31st October, they will miss out on the prize and the money will instead go towards helping good causes across the UK.

While it is still hoped that the rightful winner will come forward in the nick of time, players should always remember to check their tickets carefully to see if they have won. The National Lottery Checker provides a quick and easy way to see whether you have won any prizes in the last 180 days, whether you have played Lotto, EuroMillions, Thunderball or the Health Lottery.

There is a Lotto jackpot of £5.8 million up for grabs tomorrow night after a rollover on Saturday, while the EuroMillions top prize tonight stands at £44 million and it is also the start of Mega Week, guaranteeing that five UK players will win £1 million each. Tickets can be bought by playing online or visiting an authorised retailer. Best of luck!
