Grimsby EuroMillions Ticket Holder Lands £1 Million Prize

Last Updated: Friday 28th April 2017, 09:17 am

A EuroMillions player from Grimsby has got their bank holiday weekend off to the perfect start after claiming a £1 million prize. The lucky ticket holder landed the prize after matching one of the two UK Millionaire Maker codes in the draw on Friday 17th March.

Despite numerous appeals from National Lottery officials, it seemed as though the seven-figure sum would go unclaimed. However, the fortuitous lottery fan, who has opted to remain anonymous, finally made contact before collecting their prize on Thursday, over a month after the draw had taken place.

Andy Carter, the National Lottery’s senior winners’ advisor, was quick to express his joy following the crowning of yet another millionaire: "We're delighted that the winner of this amazing prize has now come forward and we hope that they will enjoy their win.”

The ever-present Carter also issued a helpful reminder to all future Lotto and EuroMillions winners: "It would have been awful if the ticket-holder had missed out on this life-changing amount of money. We would like to remind all National Lottery players to check their tickets every time they play." If you think you could be missing out on a major lottery prize, head to the Unclaimed Prizes page to find out.

This isn’t the first time a player from Grimsby has won a sizeable lottery sum. The town witnessed its first major jackpot winner in July 1998, when Roy Gibney landed an incredible £7.5 million Lotto jackpot after he matched all six of the main numbers in the draw. The area’s good fortune has continued ever since, with some locals even referring to the seaport settlement as ‘Winsby’.

Of course, you don’t have to live in Grimsby to win a huge sum. If you would like to be in with a chance of scooping this Friday’s £48 million top prize, you can pick your numbers online or play via any authorised retailer. And don’t forget to check those UK Millionaire Maker codes for an extra opportunity to win. Good luck!
