Lotto Players Experience Run of Jackpot Wins

Last Updated: Friday 13th May 2016, 10:58 am

Lotto players are experiencing their best run of form in terms of jackpot wins since ten additional numbers were added to the game in October 2015. The latest run is the most successful period since nine jackpots were won in the space of 12 draws between the 2nd of September and the 10th of October last year.

With five of the last 12 jackpots having been claimed, Lotto players have adapted well to the inclusion of ten additional digits seven months ago. Earlier this week, Wednesday’s jackpot of £6.3 million was won by a single ticket holder, the second time the top prize had been scooped in May alone. There is still some way to go yet, however, with last year’s total of 52 jackpot winners setting a very high target, but with a decent run of winners over the last few weeks, that total may not seem as daunting come late December.

Jackpot hauls have certainly been very high in 2016, with the average top prize payout this year coming in at an incredible £21.37 million, vastly outstripping previous amounts. This was no doubt helped by the record-breaking £66 million prize secured in January by David and Carol Martin from Harwick in the Scottish Borders and an anonymous player from Worcester.

It’s not just the Lotto jackpot that players are pursuing this month, with the National Lottery giving away double prizes throughout the month in the game’s supplementary draw, Millionaire Raffle. Having produced six millionaires already in what is delightfully being referred to as ‘Lotto May-hem’, the game will be ushering a further ten players through the doors of the millionaire’s club before the arrival of June, and all players have to do is correctly match their four-letter, eight-digit code with one of the two winning codes drawn.

This weekend’s estimated Lotto jackpot stands at an impressive £3.9 million, a total that could prove life-changing to any potential winner. With double the number of seven-figure prizes up for grabs in the Millionaire Raffle draw, players are reminded to carefully check their tickets, even if they have failed to claim a reward in the main Lotto draw. Best of luck and keep those fingers crossed.
