If you’ve ever wondered exactly how to win a huge Lotto prize, take a trip to Romford and ask the locals. Residents of the east London town were revealed to have the luckiest postcode in Britain, scooping more big Lotto wins per head than anywhere else in the country.
In research carried out by the National Lottery, the top ten most prosperous postcodes in the country were revealed, with the London borough (RM) stealing a march on its rivals to sit top of the pile. Also making it on to the podium were Cleveland (TS), an area that encompasses players in Hartlepool and Middlesbrough, and Warrington (WA) in Cheshire.
The study did show an even split in the top ten, with the north and south of the nation providing five postcodes apiece. However, the south was heavily represented by areas in and around London, with Ilford (IG), Medway (ME) and Harrow (HA) all joining Romford at the top of the table. Only the Welsh city of Newport (NP) was not in or near the UK’s capital. The areas in the north were spread more evenly, with Liverpool (L), Newcastle upon Tyne (NE) and Wigan (WN) making up the remainder of the top ten.
Players in Scotland may not be represented at the very top overall, but players in Glasgow (G) have been able to celebrate producing more millionaires in the past two years than anywhere else in the UK - an impressive 21 in the space of just 24 months. Players located in the vast Birmingham (B) postcode will also be eager to learn of their success, as England’s so-called ‘second city’ has managed to produce a massive 1,180 winners who have each claimed prizes worth over £50,000 and 127 millionaires since the National Lottery began in 1994.
In truth, it doesn’t matter where in the country you reside. Each set of numbers produced in every draw are completely random, therefore you’ve got as good a chance of winning Lotto if you live in Leeds, Lisburn, Livingston or Llanelli. What is certain though, is that you’ve got to be in it to win it!
Lotto and EuroMillions tickets can be purchased online or from any authorised retailer throughout the UK. Best of luck!
