Set For Life Winner Starts Making Plans For Next 30 Years

Last Updated: Wednesday 23rd September 2020, 11:54

A Set For Life player from Scotland can look forward to a guaranteed income of £10,000 a month for the next 30 years after claiming the game’s top prize. The lucky winner, who played online, has already started to make plans for what to do with the money.

Set For Life launched in March as the UK’s first annuity lottery, offering prizes in the top two tiers that are paid out over a long period of time rather than a one-off lump sum. You have to match five main numbers from 1 to 47, plus one Life Ball between 1 and 10, to land the jackpot.

A single participant managed to do just that in the draw on Thursday 6th June, matching the numbers 7, 12, 20, 25 and 36, plus the Life Ball of 2. Having played online, they were automatically notified that they had won a prize and kicked off the claims process very quickly.

The National Lottery’s Senior Winners’ Advisor, Andy Carter, said: “Huge congratulations to this lucky player for winning this amazing prize without even touching a ticket. After a few simple clicks they can now look forward to receiving £10,000 every month for 30 years.”

Online winners can choose to go public or remain anonymous, but they also have the option of partial publicity, where a few details are disclosed about the area where they live and what their plans for the future might be.

It has been announced that the Set For Life winner is from Stirlingshire, while they are also planning to pay off their mortgage, go on holiday and buy treats for their family. That is just for starters, with a total of £3.6 million coming their way over the next three decades.

Advantages of Set For Life

The great advantage of winning an annuity lottery such as Set For Life is the financial guarantees that it provides. Other games might offer larger jackpots, but there is always a chance that you could spend all the money quickly if you are not careful. With Set For Life, there is always another payment on the way.

The Stirlingshire player became the first ticket holder to match all the numbers since Set For Life started. However, two other participants were rewarded with the top prize of £10,000 a month for 30 years in a Super Chance draw on Thursday 23rd May, despite not matching the Life Ball. The Match 5 prize is usually £10,000 a month for just one year, but Super Chance draws take place from time to time to make it easier for players to win even more.

There are eight prize tiers in Set For Life and you win an award for matching at least two main numbers. The more numbers you match, the greater the prize, and if you are lucky enough to match them all you can start to think about how you might want to spend the money over the next 30 years, just like the winner from Stirlingshire.
