EuroMillions Superdraw To Be Held On Friday 20th April 2018

Last Updated: Thursday 5th April 2018, 14:20

EuroMillions players will all be hoping to get lucky next month after it was announced the first Superdraw of the year will be held on Friday 20th April with a guaranteed jackpot of €130 million (around £114 million).

How do Superdraws work?

Superdraws take place at random times during a year, with a guaranteed nine-figure jackpot to excite players in all nine participating countries. The jackpot is always set at the publicised amount, regardless of its size in the previous draw.

The money used to increase the jackpot amount in Superdraws comes from a EuroMillions Booster Fund, which is always given 4.8% of the Common Prize Fund for every normal EuroMillions draw. The fund is also there to guarantee the minimum jackpot of €17 million for normal draws.

Does a Superdraw jackpot have to be won on the night?

No, the Superdraw jackpot can actually roll over several times if it isn’t won on the night. It will increase in size until a player matches all five main numbers and two Lucky Stars, or when it reaches its monumental €190 jackpot cap. When the jackpot cap is reached, it can remain at this amount for four draws before it must be won in the next draw by either a jackpot winner or alternatively players from the next winning tier.

Previous Superdraws

There have been 19 previous Superdraws, dating back to the first draw on Friday 9th February 2007, when the mammoth £66,980,000 jackpot was won on the night by an anonymous ticket holder in Belgium who matched five main numbers and two Lucky Stars.

The upcoming Superdraw is in fact the first ever one to be held in the month of April – one of five months to have never had a Superdraw, along with January, July, August and December. The most recent Superdraw on Friday 15th September 2017 saw the jackpot incredibly roll over to reach its €190 million cap. The enormous jackpot was then won on Friday 6th October 2017 by a ticket holder in Spain, becoming the joint-biggest winner in the history of EuroMillions.

Can I play in the Superdraw?

Yes, players can enter the Superdraw when tickets go on sale closer to the time of the draw. However, you can still enter normal EuroMillions draws until Friday 20th April, so if you like the sound of Tuesday’s £22 million jackpot, simply pick your numbers online from the comfort of your own home to be in with a chance of becoming an overnight multimillionaire.
