Kent Florist Wins EuroMillions Prize After Series of Lucky Events

Last Updated: Monday 6th March 2017, 11:51

A florist from Kent has come up smelling of roses after scooping a EuroMillions prize of £247,463. Con Smith, who runs a small floristry business with his wife Lorna, won the six-figure sum after matching five main numbers and one Lucky Star in the draw on Tuesday 21st February.

Con, a resident of the small town of Snodland, believed that a series of lucky events led him to landing the sizeable sum, starting with some news regarding his father. "Our change in luck started when I bought my dad home from hospital,” the 58-year-old told reporters. “The previous week he was lying in a hospital bed and we had been told he had just 24 hours to live. Seven days later he'd made a miraculous recovery and I was able to take him home."

Understandably relieved that his dad had been discharged, the pair decided to celebrate by picking up some fish and chips in Rochester. The takeaway needed time to cook the fish, meaning Con had time to call into a nearby One Stop to purchase a Lucky Dip ticket. Little did he know that this decision would turn out to be one of the best of his life: "It's as if it was meant to be; dad coming out of hospital, me buying the ticket in a shop I'd never been before and the fish needing to be cooked. It's as if fate decreed the win!"

It wasn’t until the day after the draw that Con got round to checking his ticket: "I had to scan the ticket about seven more times before also cross referencing the numbers online, and each time it confirmed I'd won – it was utterly surreal." Upon discovering the news, wife Lorna was over the moon and told her husband to contact National Lottery officials, but only after he’d made an urgent delivery to a customer.

"It's no secret that running a small high street business isn't easy these days, and this win will give the business, and us, a nice boost," said Con, confirming that some of the money would be used to help support the shop. The dad-of two and grandfather-of-three also intends to help his family, as well as treating himself to a brand new car and a number of home renovations.

If you would like to follow in Con’s footsteps by winning yourself a huge EuroMillions prize, you can pick your numbers online or buy a ticket from any authorised retailer ahead of Tuesday night’s draw. Good luck!
