Lotto Luck Strikes Twice for Northern Ireland EuroMillions Winners

A couple from Northern Ireland are celebrating their second big lottery win in the space of just two years after capturing a £1 million Millionaire Maker prize. Co Londonderry residents Catherine and Ciaran Kidd previously landed a £20,000 Lotto Millionaire Raffle prize in 2015, but went one better after scooping their latest sum.
“We Really Can’t Believe This”
Meeting with National Lottery officials, the husband and wife revealed just how shocked they were following their remarkable double win: “We really can’t believe this. It still hasn’t sunk in,” Catherine beamed.
She continued: “We were lucky enough to win £20,000 in the Lotto Millionaire Raffle almost two years ago to the day and that made such a big difference to our lives back then, paying off our car and taking us on holiday. Now we’ve won a million pounds and we really haven’t a clue what we’re going to do with it.”
Discovering the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker Win
The pair, who hail from Draperstown, also told reporters of how they came to discover their second big win. Catherine, who works for a personal youth development programme, was the first to learn of the victory after receiving an email at work: “I assumed that we’d won a free Lucky Dip as that is the most regular outcome, but I wasn’t able to check on my computer at work, so I phoned Ciaran and asked him to check at home as I couldn’t settle with the suspense until I found out,” she explained.
“After a few minutes, he called me back and said I must have given him the wrong details as the system was showing that we’d won a million pounds on the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker. He thought that I was winding him up, and I thought that he was winding me up, but then he sent a screenshot to my phone and it all went a bit crazy after that,” she smiled.
How to Spend £1 Million
With the festive period fast approaching, attentions soon turned to how the money would be spent. The couple, who have four children aged between two and ten, confirmed that they had completed their Christmas, but may splash out a little more on their offspring next month: “I’m sure there will be something extra special in the kids’ stockings this year,” Catherine said.
However, the couple seemed more focused on using their newfound wealth on strengthening family bonds. Originally from Rochdale, Catherine suggested that she may use the money to see her relatives more often: “I have family in England that we can now go and visit any time we want, without having to worry about whether we can afford the flights or even the time off work.”
