Proof That You Can Win £1 Million the First Time You Play EuroMillions

Last Updated: Wednesday 3rd June 2020, 17:00

An electrician from Coventry has proved that you can win £1 million the first time you play EuroMillions, after he scooped the Millionaire Maker raffle prize on Tuesday 19th May. 31-year-old Simon Waddup says the windfall will allow him to fulfil a boyhood dream, take his family on holiday and bring him peace of mind after years of health issues.

He told the press that he had never entered EuroMillions before, but a voice in his head while he was shopping his local supermarket persuaded him to buy the fateful ticket. On returning home, the electrician bought his tickets online and was pleasantly surprised to receive an email the next morning guiding him to check his online account.

First EuroMillions Ticket Leads to Win

“I was shopping at Aldi and I kept hearing this voice telling me to buy a lottery ticket,” Simon told the press. “When I got back, I looked at my National Lottery account online and I had £5 left in my wallet,” he said, “I didn’t know what day it was, or what type of draw was available next, but saw I could buy a EuroMillions Lucky Dip.” Simon played two lines for the EuroMillions draw, having only ever played Instant Win games before, and it turned out that beginner’s luck was certainly with him!

The dad-of-one successfully matched the code MCRT 56548 to become an instant millionaire, proving that you have an equal chance of winning big on EuroMillions whether it is your first or 400th time playing the popular pan-European lottery.

How to Spend a EuroMillions Win

Many of us dream about how we would spend a huge EuroMillions win and Simon certainly knew right away what he was going to use the cash for. “I had a dream as a child,” he recalled, “I always wanted to do property development, build houses and make better houses for people.” In fact, while working, he has used his spare time to study building planning, just in case he ever got his break into the business. He says that he will certainly begin to build his portfolio with the EuroMillions win.

His daughter also has some plans for the cash. “The first person I told was my 10-year-old daughter,” said Simon, “She didn’t fully understand the amount it was because the first thing she said was ‘can I get a passport now?’ She has never been abroad and that’s been her one goal.”

Simon admits that since the win, much of his time has been spent looking at family holidays to Spain and researching development properties. His only regret is that he cannot celebrate with family and friends due to the Covid-19 pandemic but he aims to put that right when the government lifts restrictions.

The EuroMillions win came at an ideal time, as Simon has been unable to work for nearly a year. With a combination of a rare blood disorder and a faulty heart valve, he has spent a lot of time in hospital, but things are certainly looking up for the delighted dad.

In one fell swoop, Simon’s intuition helped him forget his worries, landed him his dream job and set him up for life. EuroMillions guarantees at least one UK millionaire in every draw through the Millionaire Maker supplementary game, while also offering players the chance to bank jackpots that regularly hit nine figures in the main game.

Next EuroMillions Draw

If you fancy a shot at scooping enormous, multimillion-pound winnings, EuroMillions returns on Friday 5th June with a £25 million jackpot up for grabs. If you have never played before, Simon Waddup could be your inspiration, proving that you definitely can win £1 million, or even more, the first time you play EuroMillions - and like him, you can do it all online.
